When Betsy Stuart founded our company in 1987, she used her initials E.L.M.S (Elizabeth Lee McShane Stuart) as its name. A few years ago the company rebranded as Waterford Puzzles. As we look forward, we are going back to our roots by returning to our original name. We believe this is a fitting way to honor Betsy’s love of hand-cut puzzles and celebrate her accomplishment for having founded one of the most recognizable and respected brands in puzzling.
No matter our name, the company’s talented artisans remain committed to making exceptional handcrafted wooden jigsaw puzzles. No computers. No lasers. This has been our commitment for over 35 years and we plan on keeping it for decades to come.
Here’s some other things to look forward to:
New puzzle boxes
We’ve heard and incorporated your feedback. Our new boxes will not only protect the puzzles better, but also contribute to a great puzzling experience from the moment you open the box. You can expect to see them at the beginning of 2024.
Even better quality
We’re committed to producing the world’s finest hand-cut wooden jigsaw puzzles. In that effort, we investigated ways to reduce image paper lift and glare. We’re really happy with the results and think you will be too. Our newest puzzles will be even more durable and easy to see under bright light.
Each of our puzzles is made with silky, 5-ply African Okoume wood and is hand-cut without a pattern by one of our Puzzle Artisans who have over 75 years of puzzle-cutting experience, combined. This makes every Waterford Puzzle a completely unique, one-of-a-kind work of art. We collaborate with the finest contemporary artists to provide a wide selection of fun and whimsical images as well as beautiful paintings from museum collections. In addition, each of our puzzles contains a number of specialty pieces, congruent with the theme of the puzzle’s artwork, or specifically personalized to the customer’s requests.
I make to order and also custom design and then make bow ties, neckties and suspenders for men, and since spring 2020 have been making face masks as well. Most of the accessories I make are from silk or cotton fabric. I have an extensive line of Liberty of London fabrics that I make into bow ties and suspenders. In addition to made to order mens neckwear and suspenders, working directly with my clients, I also custom design bow ties and suspenders. My most popular custom designed works are called CoordinateCoordinates: bow ties, neckties and suspenders featuring maps of specific, client provided addresses. These popular CoordinateCoordinates are great conversation starters because the map location on the accessory is specific to the person wearing it. Every location has a story to go with it.
Handmade metal iron art, home and garden decor. Most everything we do is reclaimed from old tools, parts and pieces of old impliments, hand forged and welded in our shop. Sources that we get our material from include Liberty Tool, uncle henry’s and craigslist, and from Brown’s welding and steel/Bangor Steel. What makes it unique is our own design. I make sure what we do, no one else does.
I build furniture using traditional woodworking joinery. The correct methods used 200 years ago that produced heirloom quality furniture.
Examples: half blind and through dovetails; pinned mortise and tenon joints; joined board panels (no dowel or biscuit joinery); dados; rabbits.
Multi-coat, hand rubbed oil and wax finishes.
I offer a standard line of furniture, but specialize in the custom piece for the customer.

I am an avid wood worker who loves any kind of wood, especially creative wood that has character – the more the better. Burls, roots, twists, color, crazy grain… you name it, I’ll make something out of it. I grew up in Maine and love the state and the natural world it harbors. Come visit! Or, if you can’t, buy yourself or a friend a gift to bring a taste of Maine to you. Then relax, close your eyes, have a glass of your favorite wine, and go wherever you want to go!
ABOUT MY CLIMATE ART
My art is evolving quickly as my awareness of the world emerges from my early, blissful years as a backwoods artist. For 15 years, I happily carved flowers, rendering their lush, sexy shapes in wood. Now, every facet of my being is influenced by the advance of climate change. Flowers have become much more than breathless elegance. Now, by their mere existence, every petal represents to me nature’s struggle in a warming world. My art aspires to move viewers to play their part in engaging in sustainable cooperation with our natural world. We must collectively re-learn to respect that we need nature to sustain our economies and nourish our souls.
Welcome to La Luna Art Glass, where you’ll find fine quality kiln fired glass artwork as well as pendants, earrings, and bracelets. All my items are made by hand in my home studio. Pieces of dichroic and art glass are carefully arranged and layered, then placed in a kiln and heated to a melting temperature. The glass turns to a molten state and fuses together to form a colorful and unique design. The glass is then annealed and slowly cooled for strength and durability. Depending how the piece results, it may be shaped and trimmed, then put back in the kiln to fire-polish to a smooth finish.
Chintz, China, or Chinoiserie style, each Maine oyster shell is delicately decoupaged and hand gilded creating ring, trinket or accent dishes. Add unique coastal chic to any seaside setting or simply as a memory keepsake. Lightly coated with an acrylic finish. No water please.
